Mr Chow Yun Fat

The highest-grossing Hong Kong actor of the 1980s, Chow Yun Fat attended TVB’s acting course in 1973. He was subsequently cast in the station’s popular drama series including Hotel (1976), The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1979) and The Bund (1980). Chow’s first big screen endeavour was The Reincarnation (1976), but it was with Hong Kong 1941 (1984) that he won Best Actor at the Asia-Pacific Film Festival and Taiwan’s Golden Horse Awards in 1985. A Better Tomorrow (1986), a film that spurred a craze for action hero films, was the start of a string of mega box-office hits in Chow’s career. He scooped Best Actor at the 6th , 7th and 9th Hong Kong Film Awards for A Better Tomorrow (1986), City on Fire (1987) and All about Ah-Long (1989). Other key works include An Autumn’s Tale (1987), Prison On Fire (1987) and God of Gamblers (1989). After making Peace Hotel in 1995, Chow headed for Hollywood, appearing in The Replacement Killers (1998) and Anna and the King (1999), as well as Chinese-language titles such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000). Chow’s recent works include From Vegas to Macau (2014), Office (2015) and Project Gutenberg (2018).
