Ms. Florence Lim
(1905 - 1979)
Born in Vancouver, Canada, Florence Lim was educated in Chinese schools there. That explains why she could use both Chinese and English with equal fluency and was adept in writing articles and poems in both languages. She returned to Hong Kong at age 12 and got acquainted with the Lai family. In 1919 she married Lai Man-wai and was very supportive of his husband's career. In 1924, China Sun produced Hong Kong’s first feature film “Rouge” in which Lim played the leading role. She had also acted in many films produced by China Sun and United Photoplay, including “Way Down West” (1927), “Mulan Joins the Army” (1928), “Spring Dream in the Old Capital” (1930), “Song of China” (1935) and “Song of a King Mother” (1937). She returned to Hong Kong after the war to continue her acting career, playing mostly loving mothers.
